Ideal's Sustainable Forest Resource (SFR) Program
The forests not only provide outstanding environmental benefits, but also provide an array of renewable wood
products and derivatives that are widely used in paper, packaging, building, furnishings and a host of other applications.
The global wood products industry therefore has an inherent responsibility to the environment and, in particular, to the world's
forests and their sustainability. As industry leaders, we fully support responsible forest management practices that promote
sustainability first, and that result in long term economic and environmental benefit.
We at Ideal care about our forests. It is our commitment -- and our challenge -- to
promote the practice of sustainable forestry to meet the environmental and human needs of today without compromising the ability
to meet the needs of future generations.
Ideal sources raw
materials from reputable sources with a commitment to the same ideals as specified by the U.S. Green Building
Council (USGBC). I created Ideal's trademarked SFR program in 1999 to personally ensure that all of the
Environmental Design Criteria were met or exceeded on "green" projects.
We follow the same Chain-of-Custody (COC) steps as the big, for-profit certifiers
that have popped-up to take advantage of the market. The difference is that Ideal does not charge for this
service, keeping this certified SFR product within reach for all of our customers and
end users. This control of pricing, as well as the emphasis on quality, will serve to expand the awareness
of consumers as to the advantages of using products within the scope of USGBC standards.
Our goal at Ideal, as a manufacturer of wood doors and plywood, is to provide
the finest quality, while remaining true to our commitment to our children and our environment.
